If a plug-in is missing

You may occasionally find a webpage that requires a plug-in that’s not already on your computer. Sometimes the webpage recommends the correct plug-in.

Follow these steps to get the correct plug-in:

Step 1

Open System Profiler.

Step 2

In System Profiler, under Hardware in the Info window, check the Processor Name which will be either PowerPC or Intel.

Step 3

If your Mac is Intel-based, get the Universal version of the plug-in. If the only available version is for PowerPC-based Macs, you can use Safari with Rosetta to improve compatibility. For more information, see:

Safari works with the plug-ins that are installed with Mac OS X. To see a list of installed plug-ins, open Safari and choose Help > Installed Plug-ins.

If you're unsure which plug-in you need, and the webpage doesn't recommend one, contact the owner of the webpage.
