Customizing the Safari window

The Safari window has four bars, three along the top and one along the bottom. You can hide or show these bars, and customize or rearrange them.

To change the bars:

Hide or show a bar

Choose View > Hide Bookmarks Bar, Status Bar, Tab Bar, or Toolbar. If a bar is hidden, its View menu option changes to Show.

Customize the toolbar

Choose View > Customize Toolbar. Drag buttons into or out of the toolbar, and then click Done.

Rearrange the toolbar or bookmarks bar

Click the Safari window to make it active. Then hold down the Command key and drag the buttons or bookmarks back and forth. The Home and arrow buttons can’t be dragged.

When you resize a window, buttons become hidden as the toolbar shrinks. To specify that a button should remain visible, Control-click the button and choose Keep Item Visible.
